The price of multi-region DVD players has shot down.
The Starlogic DVD player is now on sale at Amazon* for £19.99. Even better, this machine is multi-region (which means it can play disks from anywhere in the world) and delivery is free for orders over £19.
At this price it is far undercutting even the cheapest old style video recorders (well DVD players have left moving parts, so now the technology premium has gone from them, it's not surprising). Of course this ain't the swiftest high tech DVD player ever - but at this price, if you can put the DVD in and it plays whoppie (if you need one). An easy solve for a teenagers birthday present at that!
It doesn't come with a scart cable, but i wouldn't buy this from Amazon, who charge £15, you should be able to pick one up for substantially less (if you don't already have one) elsewhere.
This seems to be a cracking deal - you can beat it?
If you're a member of the Rpoints cashback site then using the above link to Amazon will earn you an extra 3% discount. If you're not then read 'Cutting Edge Internet Shopping Techiques' to find out more (and if you can't be bothered in that case the points will come to MSE).

This was posted last week on the Grabbit board. It would seem a fair number of them are being returned aswell - its a cracking deal if you get one that works, but it would seem a fair percentage are turning up DOA0

Praps there should b a min spec 4 a bargain DVD player ?
It should be:
Multi-region (out of the box)
component video output (progressive scan)
Divi, Xvid, Mpeg4 etc output
That'll do 4 now .......0 -
Hi,
I recently picked up an ingersoll D2000 from Dixons. For the sum of 24.99, it plays DVD's (region-free), CD's, MP3's and JPEG discs. The video output comprise of RGB over SCART, s-video, composite and 100Hz progressive scan on separate component RGB connectors. It's tiny and slient, and is picture perfect. The only downside is no 5.1 , only 2.1 stereo sound (with phono and digital coax outputs) and the remote is small with tiny buttons ( a bit pants but still works ).
I know this is £5 more than the Starlogic, but if you have/are thinking of getting an LCD/plasma telly and need progressive scan, this could be for you.

Asda are doing a DVD player for £19.99 at the moment. You get a years guarantee with Asda so if it breaks down you will get a replacement (rather than a repair) as long as you still have the receipt. Handier than having to pack it up and send it back somewhere0

Are you sure its only 12 months, it used to be that Asda gave a free 3 year replacement warrenty with all its Electrical products. I dont think they shout it to loud incase it gets abused. Does anyone know if its still true?0

I'm sure that they stopped it. Because it was a no questions asked warranty people were keeping the goods for a while and then replacing them with something better!! I know we sometimes feel ripped off by companies but when they make an effort they get ripped off worse by the consumer .0 -
got my scart lead from poundland.....works fine too with the starlogic playerthanks to everyone who has thanked me!0

Great deal. I still prefer the Yamada 6700 (WITH the firmware upgrade because otherwise it is useless

they told me it was 12 months when I enquired so I think they may well have stopped the 3 year exchange one as it probably was getting abused.0 -

It really doesn't matter too much about the warrenty. Warrenties are just added extras and only give you the rights that are written in the terms and conditions.
As a consumer you have statutory rights when you buy any item. Your rights come under a piece of legislation called the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). This states the the goods must be of satisfactory quality , fit for their intended purpose/or purpose made known , and as described .
This basically means, if there is a manufacturering fault with the item that you have purchased you are entitled to redress from the retailer that you bought it from. Within a small period of time you would be entitled to a full refund (this is seen to be in case law approx 3 weeks), otherwise you are entitled to a repair or replacement.0
