Building insurance distance to tree

Hi Group

When asked for in a building insurance quote for eample are there any trees over 10m tall within 5m of your home.

Is this the distance to the tree trunk or the nearest branch?

Is there a "standard" out there for this question or does it vary with insurer?

Thanks
bill

    To tree trunk.

Not all Insurers are worried about trees close to the house.

Some will have different acceptance criteria depending on the type of tree. height and distance.

What sort of tree is it?

Last time I got asked that question I heard someone knocking at the door and had to hang up. Whatever distance they want to know about it is always too close for you to be able to say no.

  • Hi dacouch

To tree trunk is good news to hear.

The tree in question is an old large horse chesnut/conker tree, but its over 5m away to the trunk from the nearest part of the home. Its branches have long bows an are within 4m of the home in places.
