Working tax credit overpayment

After continually failing to get through to the HMRC or the citizens advice bureau, I was hoping that someone on here could tell me if there was a way to work out if the amount I have been told I have been overpaid is correct?
My predicted income for the year was £15,000 but I actually received £17,126.
I was awarded £2209.68 working tax credit for the year and I have been told that I now have to pay back £1013.90 of this.
Thanks.

My income for the year before was £5869. It was WTC only and I'm single with no disabilities.0

Just a thought - but have you tried putting your figures into the 'Entitled to' site?

Thanks, I've had a quick look at that site. I'll have to dig out some papers before I can fill in all the figures it's asking for!0 -
As BB says, we need more details on the entitlement side.
Presuming the entitlement figures are correct, then the income rise alone should only give an overpayment of £871 so there must be some related to something else other than income.

OK I've found my initial award, it's dated 3rd July. Basic (297 days) is £1565.19 and 30 hour element is £644.49. There is no reduction due to my income.
I was working temporary jobs that kept getting extended so I kept updating them with my expected income. I think I gave them the £15,000 figure in December.0 -
Looks to me like they failed to action the £15k revised income estimate from December.
OP did you ever get sent a new award in December 2013? If not then you might be able to dispute the overpayment so long as you act within 30 days. Also do a subject access report to them for all telephone calls for the past year. That is where your proof will be.0 -
Thanks for all your advice guys!
Finally got through on the helpline and I continued to be paid WTC despite telling them my income had gone up to “avoid any hardship.” I don’t think this was explained clearly to me on the phone but was apparently also explained in the updated award notification that I received (which rings a bell if I’m honest).
I’m definitely going to start keeping better financial records to avoid any more unnecessary stress!0
