Kindle repair

Hi everyone,
I searched the forum but to no avail. My old kindle 3g is broken. I've had it for years so it is out of warranty. Basically the hardware is fine but the USB/charger port is damaged so it will no longer charge.
I can't find any info about repairs on the Amazon website. I found some commercial repair offers online although they seem to charge around 45 pounds plus postage. Does anyone know a more affordable option? Thanks so much in advance. I use it and the free international 3g a great deal. It's really sad seeing the battery running lower and lower with no way to charge.

Try giving Amazon a ring on 0800 496 2449
They might offer the repair, or an upgrade for a knocked down price.0 -
At a guess Amazon will tell you it can't be repaired but they will offer to sell you a refurbished one.
If you ask how they refurbish something that can't be repaired they get all sniffy.0 -
Hmpf.
I gave them a ring. The cheapest refurbished 3g model is a 109 pounds and I would have to send in my own kindle. Hardly a good deal... Thanks for the advice though. It was definitely worth a shot!
If anyone knows a good/cheap repair service?0 -
There are currently 55 Kindles on ebay with 3G: starting price anything from a tenner upwards-depends on which gen and capacity you are looking for.
I doubt if it's commercially repairable for less than £60-75; presumably a new USB port would have to be soldered to the mobo, This may help, depending on model:

Thanks for the advice. I did look around the web, and as predicted by macman was offered the repair by one service for 70 odd pounds.
Some good news though: I found a local (Oxford) mobile phone repair shop called HT Solution which was willing to do the repair for 30 pounds. And it worked!0
