Yes - the Barclay basic account comes with a standard visa debit. you can use this card wherever visa debit is accepted.
  • Thank you so much, i have not been able to buy hardly anything for my disabled son as postal orders are so expensive, thanks again
  • I'm glad you got an account open, it's a great little account, the mobile banking app and the free text alerts to let you know you need to put some more money in to cover a DD are really good!

I moved to Barclays prior to BR. Barclays have been brilliant with me. The mobile app is great however whilst you are bankrupt, it will come up with an error code and you cannot access it. Once you get discharged, then it will be back up and running.
  • I have been discharged over 4 years now, i have 1 year to go before the 6 year end time

You should be able to have all the phone apps and online banking to goo with the debit card too :)
  • yes the direct debits was what i was after and also a way to do phone ordering as postal orders have been a killer for me, they did text me this afternoon with the online banking stuff, but as yet i have not had the debit or cash card whatever it is

Do you open the account before you declare BR or after? I already have a lloyds account that I don't use and a co op current would it look odd if I try open another account and I have a barclaycard credit card I'm in arrears with!!

if you are in trouble with barclays go for co op, i really do not know before or after, but if you open it will it not be frozen by the OR ?
I have seen discussions where people were saying they were opened after discharge that makes sense but i am not sure, if it gets frozen it will be gone
They asked me where i had my benefits paid in and i said i had opened a post office account and he said that was fine as it could not be touched
barclaycard will just snatch it, when my dad died he owed the then access card and the then midland just emptied it all, that is the credit card dept emptied his current account so be careful with that one
