Yet another Tac Credits question

I apologise for another Tax Credits question but with a number of conditions my brain's not what it was and I can get easily confused about things.

Last years income was £10773. However this years I have estimated will be nearer £17000, which I have told them but they weren't able to tell me what amount our credits will be based on for 14/15 just yet, so just to give me an advance warning I just want to have some idea.
I believe they will use the Current Years Income for 2014/15. I also know or have heard about the £5000 disreagrd can someone explain how that works here and what the actual figure for 2014/15 will be based on. Thanks in advance.
