CCJ previous addresses

I have recently returned from working abroad for 1 year. My post was held at a relatives during this time. I have received a letter informing me that a CCJ has been logged against me in my absence for a debt which was paid off. I have informed them of this but letters keep arriving. What is a CCJ and what will happen next?

A CCJ is a county court judgement. Did you pay the debt before or after the judgement date.
What happens is that a claim form is sent to your last known address. You then have the opportunity to deny or admit the debt. If you do not reply (as you obviously didn't being abroad) then the judge will automatically grant the CCJ.
Once you have a CCJ then only way to dispute the debt is file a set aside claim whereby you would be required to prove that you did not owe the money at the date of the original judgement (because you had already paid it). See this link - https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/12%20EW%20County%20court%20-%20how%20to%20set%20aside%20a%20judgment/Default.aspx
Do you have a copy of the judgement from your relative? if not the next step is to obtain a copy of the judgement and you can get this from the court that issued it.
If you are successful in getting the judgement set aside then it will be removed from the register of judgements and from your credit file.
If you do not do anything about the judgement then it is likely that the creditor will try to enforce the debt (such as sending bailiffs or some other form of enforcement).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Hi cinnamon
A CCJ is a county court judgment which gives the creditor (the person to whom the money is allegedly owed) the right to enforce their "debt" against you by a number of means, including the use of court bailiffs or deductions from salary.
In this case it sounds as if you have reason to dispute the CCJ as you state the debt had been paid off - can you say when this happened, and the date when the CCJ was obtained against you?
I recommend that you read our fact sheet on how to "set aside" a CCJ - that is, cancel it:

Kind regards
