Just to make it clear, these do not replace the standard halogen lamp as they do not give off the same amount of light, hence the effects lighting. I found out the hard way with lamos from elsewhere.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

not avail in SE Scotland. Must be regional againRegistered Linux user #497422 :beer:0

Energy saving bulbs are very frustrating as if I'm gonna spend a lot on them then I want to see how they perform first. Of course you very rarely get the chance to do that.

Depends on the colour tint as to how they will look, but in theory this is the way energy saving on lighting is moving.
Early days yet.... In theory these should only consume 1 watt per lamp, but it depends how they get 230 volts down to less than 2 volts to run each led.

Strange when I checked the web site earlier it wasn't there, it is now! So I retract my not available in SE Scotland message.Registered Linux user #497422 :beer:0 -
Like others have said - don't expect these to replace your halogen bulbs. Consumer LEDs are probably a decade off being a viable alternative lightsource but I think they'll get there.0

You can get GU10 LED bulbs with 60 or 90 leds from a websites in the UK but they are very new. The 60 LED version is about 40w and the 90 LED 55-60w. LED lights aren't that far off but these have only appeared online for sale in the last couple of weeks. I've got a couple of 60 LEDs GU10 in as replacements for halogen and pretty impressed with them/
18 LED will be about 15watts'ish0 -
I have to agree with the sentiments so far. I've played with energy efficient lighting for about 18 months. 60+ LEDs do give out enough light output, but the colour is VERY important, the ones I used gave a very cold, clinical light, they were also VERY expensive. These 18 ish LED versions offered by Aldi will give a VERY VERY poor light output and will definateley NOT replace your 50 watt halogens. Probably ideal for decking lights and such applications - ambient light basically - but not really for a main light fitting.
In case people were looking to save money ( hence this site ! ) try looking at Megaman's GU10 they offer 7,9 and 11 watt versions ( so approx 1/5th the power ) but give very similar light levels as they use traditional energy saving tubes. The light is not quite as nice as halogen but its a good alternate saving power and money. Be aware these are longer than normal GU10's though ( fine for most application ).
