Cancel Cheque

Yesterday I had a Bathroom designer in and quoted me a price which I paid a deposit by cheque, having thought about it overnight I wish to cancel the order with the 14 day cooling off period. I have notified them of this by email and cancelled the cheque with the bank. Is it OK to cancel a cheque once you have told them of your intentions.

As far as I know it is fine. If you write the cheque with the intention of cancelling it later then there's a problem, but if you didn't have that intention and have properly cancelled the order (so the trader isn't entitled to the money anyway) then I can't see any issue with cancelling the cheque.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

If they have already deposited the cheque then they will be annoyed by your cancelling it because they will probably be hit by a bounced cheque fee which would be more than the cost of them returning the monies too you but technically that isnt your problem.0
