Hi all,
My daughter has asked for a Topsy and Tim birthday cake. Does anyone know if any of the supermarkets have caught on to this trend and created one?
thanks

I've looked at birthday cakes in Tesco, waitrose and M&S and haven't seen one. Just had a look on eBay and Amazon to see if they sold one of those rice paper printed cake toppers to plonk on a plain cake and that drew a blank.
I feel your pain! I'll be writing a begging post tomorrow asking for help with the My Little Pony cake I have to create this week. I've got piles of fondant and a lot of food colours!0 -
Could you clarify what you/your daughter means? My first thought was Topsy and Tim, they're back??? A google search tells me they are now a tv series but with real people acting, so is your daughter asking for a cake with the actors faces on?0

Thank you for your replies. Yes I think in her dreams she has conjured up a photo printed on a cake. They do these in supermarkets for Disney and tv characters. She is very hopeful and I fear she will be disappointed and I have no idea how to pipe anything remotely like the characters with my very basic baking skills!0

It's been a while but......Do Asda still have the service where you can print a photo/picture on a cake?
Would that be worth exploring?Autism Mum Survival Kit: Duct tape, Polyfilla, WD40, Batteries (lots of),various chargers, vats of coffee, bacon & wine.0 -
Could you print off images and laminate them and stick them on to upright cocktail sticks or skewers?
Then decorate the cake with icing as normal.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

See if you can find someone willing either to make and decorate it, or decorate a cake you have made/bought. My aunt did this as a hobby which is now a small business. She has an album of photos of some of her creations and they are amazing. She talks to people to find out what they want, sometimes they want really bizarre decorations (like the wife of a builder who requested a cement mixer and half-built brick wall on his 50th birthday cake - he cried when he saw it as he was so touched). Our wedding cake had what looked like a piece of sheet music on top, but it was a sheet of icing curled up at the corners and my aunt had painstakingly copied all the notes of one of our favourite pieces onto it in edible ink.
I suggest looking in or asking at a local shop which sells cake decorating equipment. They often have adverts in there and they will know who their regular customers are. HTH0 -
For a friends cake last year I used one of these

Just email them the picture and it comes back as an edible cake topper!xxx Nikki xxx0
