Vehicle based Breakdown cover

Hi, I'm trying to sort out car ins for my OH and juggle breakdown cover.

I have just joined us with the RAC for personal cover with £70 cash back, totaling £85 for our cover after this. Always been with either RAC or the AA.

There is currently an offer for OH to get free vehicle based cover with his car ins.

I've always had us signed up for personal cover as we drive each other's cars, thinking (perhaps naively) that vehicle cover is for the owner of the vehicle only so I didn't want me to be driving his and get stuck if it broke down or vice-versa.

Does vehicle cover actually mean any driver in that vehicle? i know it's prob a dumb question but if so, then I might cancel the personal RAC and do something else.

TIA.

Have a look at Green Flag.

They cover the vehicle and not the individual.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Thanks - I did look at Green Flag before but they weren't that competitive as my car is 10yrs old.

Wondered what Start Resuce and some of the other cheaper providers where like - whether they cover the vehicle and whoever is driving, or just the policyholder in the vehicle?

get personal cover ... they do not ask what vehicle you have.

as long as you are the driver or passenger in vehicle that breaks down they will cover you.

I've always had personal cover, but as you know, its more expensive than vehicle cover. Realistically I don't travel often in anyone else's car except mine or OH, and i am starting to question whether I really want to add to the breakdown cover cost if I am in someone else's car just in case they don't have cover. IYSWIM?

OH could be covered through his insurance for free, it covers anyone driving his car (which would be me as no one else does). So really i just want to ensure he's covered if he were to drive mine (which is occasionally) and it broke down.

Thanks for that - yes we're married so that could be an option too.

I think I'm going to have to work on a spreadsheet...:D
