Benefits/housing benefit entitlement

Hi all,
I am just enquiring about the possibility of claiming benefits from next month. I am currently employed on a temp contract but have nothing lined up for next month. I have been applying but so far, no answers. I am also registered as self-employed but my income from this is extremely sporadic - I could get a project worth £300 then nothing for the rest of the month, or a few small projects spread out through the month, but it's never enough to live off. Would I be entitled to any benefits if I don't get a new contract? I am single, 29 and rent a room in a shared flat in London.

You may be entitled to HB on the basis of income.
Self employed people can get varying amounts of HB with income - they need to continually keep HB updated with their income.
I cannot answer how much you'd get though.0 -
if you are working less than 16 hours a week, you can sign on for JSA.
the amount you would receive would be dependant on your earnings. anything over £5 a week would be deducted from JSA entitlement.

Thanks for your advice. I didn't realise you could get JSA for working less than 16 hours a week. Is that 16 hours of min wage or 16 hours full stop? Any idea how long it would take to sign on and start receiving benefits?0

16 hours irrespective of income. The income will dictate how much JSA you get. You will be allowed to earn £5 per week and the rest will be deducted £1 for £1 from the JSA payment0
