What does your Nan say about not using the money for a boiler?
The full system, the quote was from British Gas. No idea who else we could ask for a quote
Their finance is 20%+ so we wanted to avoid that if possible. We have a measly £175 saved towards it so far.

As you've now said the boiler's dying I would go with the boiler cos if you spent the money on the van and the boiler packs up in a few months time, will you be able to get your hands on a couple of grand for a new one?
It's tempting fate, so I'd stick with the safe option
What a lovely nan btw
No we won't. We are trying to save £50 a month and that's hard enough! No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
British Gas are really, really expensive.
Ask around for people to recommend gas installers (make sure they're CORGI registered) and you might get a good system for half what BG charge.Retired in 2015.

I would definately agree that you should try to get some more quotes for the gas boiler. If you manage to get the boiler for less then you could perhaps shop around for the van and get the lot for £3175. Plus you would hopefully save on gas bills if the new boiler is more econimical and your Dad would save on insurance. Try putting a thread up on 'I wanna' to see if there are any gas fitters out there that could give you a better idea of cost.
I know it can be difficult when you suddenly have some money to spend and a lot of priorities and when you have been on here for a while it goes against the grain to spend it :rotfl::cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Dillemas eh all this DFWing! I would DEFINATELY get quotes for the boiler - I got a combi on for MUCH less than hat & its still working fine after 7 years with only 1 repair (for something silly!) in that time! Shop round & see who will do what; it may be a quiet time of year due to hols etc so you may get a good deal anyway (mid winter is the busiest I suspect!!). Your dad would LIKE a van but doesent NEED one for now (if I read that right?) while the boiler sounds more of a necessity and also think of the cost of having to go o the laundrette etc with washingl friends for shower etc; it would be a nightmare without it!! Hope you sort the dilemma; these things make your brain hurt dont they!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Oh sorry, I might have misunderstood then - I thought your Dad needed a van for work - if it's just that he would like one, then I'd go for the boiler and then save up for the van.
British Gas are really expensive for anything like that, I would definitely shop around, you might be able to afford both."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
