DFW Dilemma

I have a dilemma, but a positive one. Wondered if you guys could give me some advice.
Our boiler is dying. It's 18 years old, they generally last 14, so it's probably costing us more in gas than a newer one would. So we said this to my nan and she said she'd give us £3000 which she doesn't want back.
The boiler is approx £2550. So we'd have a little left over for the cc's which are charging interest or the boiler may be a little more as that price was a 'special offer'.
But...
Dad needs a van for work, he has a car but the garage aren't interested in it as a trade in so we'd have to private sell it. The van is £2700 so about £2000 would be needed if we got a decent sale on Dad's car.
Do we use the money for the boiler or the van?

If the boiler still works then id use it for the van because no doubt your dad needs that for work etc.
Or couldnt you repair the van with some of the money and get a special offer boiler?
Good luck with what ever you choose.:j WILL GET THERE SOON :j

Dad's got a car which he uses for work but it would be easier for him to have his own van. Plus £10 cheaper a month in insuranceNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Then you cold put what ever is left after buying the van aside and save the £10 a month that the cheaper insurance brings and buy a boiler later in the year.
thats what i would do anyway.

Is the £2550 for just the boiler? or the full system? Have you had other quotes? Could you get a service agreement on the boiler maybe paying £10 a month (money saved on Dads insurance!) that way if it breaks down the bolier will be fixed?
What does your Nan say about not using the money for a boiler?Proud to be dealing with our debts - We WANT to be debt free DEC 09

Is your Nan happy for you to use the money for whatever purpose you want? If so, I think I'd go along with what the others have said about getting the van and then save up to replace the boiler."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

As you've now said the boiler's dying I would go with the boiler cos if you spent the money on the van and the boiler packs up in a few months time, will you be able to get your hands on a couple of grand for a new one?
It's tempting fate, so I'd stick with the safe option
What a lovely nan btw

I'd shop around for both - my OH has an eye on a van for work, VW one, that's only £800... get some quotes xx0
