WhatsApp Error Message/Triangle on Phone?

Options
Hi

I installed the WhatsApp app onto my Samsung Galaxy S2 a month or two ago I think.

In the last few days I keep getting a large warning triangle in the pull down menu on my phone. The pull down reads:

"WhatsApp error
This version of WhatsApp became obsolete on Aug 4, 2014. Please go to Google Play to download the latest version.

Your device's date is Aug 10, 2014. If this is incorrect pelase correct your device's date settings then restart WhatsApp".

This is gobbledygook to me - surely Apps just update themselves. If it's something I'm going to have to keep re-dowloading I think I'd rather remove it.

So I am wondering if it is a genuine message?

If it is going to be a hassle I would prefer to just uninstall the App as I rarely use it - but I can't find out how to uninstall it from the phone.

Pls can anyone help.

Did you set your device to automatically update apps?

If not then no they won't automatically update themselves, you will have to go to the google play store and update them manually?

Which should if the app needs updating fix your problem!!

I believe this was an extra security update due to a problem That may account for the manual update .

    To uninstall

    1. go to play store, my apps tab, tap on whatsapp then
    uninstall.

    2. Go to settings applications manager, whatsapp, then unistall.

The way Android works is that apps require a certain set of permissions to be installed, e.g. to make phone calls, use the internet, access the camera, etc.

Whenever an update changes the permissions that the app requires, you must manually update the app so that you can make an informed decision about whether you still want to use it.

For example, if you installed a camera app that doesn't have photo sharing capabilities, you might wonder why it wants to access your contact list and decide not to install it. The reason certain updates need to be manually installed is so that an app can't gain these extra permissions later without your express consent.

    Hope that makes sense.
