Recieved a letter from ESA about arrears 'A payment of arrears of Income based Employment and Support Allowance amounting to £850.12 has been calculated for the period from 11tj April 2014 to 4th august 2014, the arrears has not been pAid or credits to me as they are holding details of an overpayment and will contact me once they have decided if recovery is needed and then any arrears due will be paid to me ASAP .'
I'm confused as I'm on assessment phase and can't c why I've been sent this

It's suggesting that there was an overpayment of a previous benefit and that a decision has yet to be made as to whether or not they can offset that overpayment against the arrears you are owed from ESA. The figure given looks like the difference between single person and couple rate.
If the over payment was official error i.e. DWP error they can't make you pay it back and can't offset it against the ESA payment. If the overpayment was made because you didn't provide information they can offset it.
Give them a call to get a bit more information.0 -
Thanks just a little worried that it's fraudulent but why would they pay me an arrears for I've not had a wca yet0
