Bank refuses to release details of accounts

Hi
Newbie here. Sorry.
I'm sure that I've had unnecessary PPI on my accounts with NatWest but I'm a little hopeless in keeping information. I've written to my bank to get details of all my accounts and with insurance but they have written back to say they are not obliged to release any information to me so I'm unable properly to complete an application form for me to reclaim the PPI that I'm sure I will have paid on my accounts with them. I had a gold account with them for years and never used any benefits.
Any suggestions on how I go about completing an application for a refund?
Many thanks if you can help.

If you are sure you paid it on the accounts then why do you need information?I had a gold account with them for years and never used any benefits.
Is that your complaint or do you have a PPI complaint?Any suggestions on how I go about completing an application for a refund?
You havent said what your complaint is about. it seems to flit between packaged accounts and PPI. You dont ask for a refund. you make a complaint giving your reasons for complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Did you send a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) - link on the first page of this forum - along with £10 to the bank to get all your records, or did you just write to them and ask for copies of everything they had (they're allowed to charge £10 for this)?
Treat the 2 complaints as separate - if you have a gold account that you didn't use and have decent complaint details then submit that complaint - don't hold your breath though if the account is closed (especially if more than 6 years ago) as they may have destroyed the records.
For your PPI complaint - establish that you did have it (via the DSAR) first of all and then establish your complaint reasons (you may well be asked to prove them) - are you complaining about credit card or loan PPI or something else?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

NatWest did the same with me and I had a NatWest Advantage Gold Account too, as well as a linked Loan Account. It's worth pursuing. I had to write to the Financial Ombudsman Service to force Natwest to check their IT systems. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0

I wasn't aware the Ombudsman could force such a search? The normal procedure would be for FOS to inform you that you need to send a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter to the Bank at a cost of £10.I had to write to the Financial Ombudsman Service to force Natwest to check their IT systems.
Perhaps NatWest decided to comply regardless?0 -

It cant. I suspect the poster is getting mixed up with complaint and search. You cant even go to ombudsman without complaining and a DSAR is not a complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Poster concerned seems to have some influence with the Ombudsman:You cant even go to ombudsman without complaining and a DSAR is not a complaint.

Sorry, I should have made clear that I did send a Subject Access Request to NatWest. They failed to respond and the lady from the FOS told me over the 'phone that they asked NatWest to view their IT records for my account from over a decade ago.
Incidentally, NatWest waived the £10 ie didn't cash my cheque; but, I don't know if that's their policy with all PPI complaints. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they didnt comply within timescale they should waive it (and good that they did). However, a data subject access request and a PPI complaint are two separate things. So, they wouldnt normally waive it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. A DSAR is £10, this is a request for information.Incidentally, NatWest waived the £10 ie didn't cash my cheque; but, I don't know if that's their policy with all PPI complaints.
To make a PPI complaint is free. This is an expression of dissatisfaction. You dont need to complete an application form. Complaints can be made via post, phone or email.
Neither are the same. You also dont need to do a DSAR to make a mis-sale complaint.0
