Household Bills in the UK?

Hi there,

We've been out of the UK for about five years and are planning our return.

We are now two adults and two young children.

Can anyone share any information on average household expenses such as gas, water, and electricity to help us budget please?

I'm assuming we will be renting a 3 bedroom house upon our return which should help with cost estimates.

Thanks a lot!

Have you tried a search engine?

If you really want to dig into gas and electric data you could try this.

Oh, and posting on the Banking board is unlikely to get you the best responses, try one that's more appropriate to the subject.

It depends on whether the house is on a water meter or rates. It's worth considering getting gas & electricity from the same supplier as you can qualify for a dual fuel discount.

    Blame MSE, not the OP.

In fact it's "(1) Budgeting and (2) Bank Accounts" board.

Fair enough, but given that the OP wants to know about utility costs there are better places on here for the question to be asked.

The Community Charge (commonly called the Poll Tax) was abolished in 1993, so you shouldn't still be paying it. We have the Council Tax now.

So why don't you suggest such a place for the OP instead of just sniping?
