PPI Query - Lloyds (Now TSB) Platinum CC

Hi, this is my first post, so if these questions are repeats I do apologise. I have been reading the threads for a few days and have found a lot of my answers already, thank you :)

I had a CC with Lloyds from about 2009, not exactly sure of dates, cant remember how I applied for the card, but think as I was an existing customer of the bank it was offered in letter form. I most likely filled out the form and sent it off - cannot remember if I ticked PPI or not. In general we would never have requested PPI Insurance, we are self employed and had other private payment cover.

I was confident that I have not been paying any PPI, so feel rather foolish that after chatting with a friend, who made a successful claim, I looked on an old statement (this CC is now all paid up) and saw the following information printed on the statement:
Account Information: Your monthly minimum payment must be 2% of your statement balance (min £5, or full balance if less than £5); or, if more, an amount equal to the total of interest, late payment, overlimit or returned payment charges, the PPI premium on your statement and 0.5% of your statement balance.
When I noticed this rang the telephone number from the info on this site and spoke to an operative who said, No - I had no PPI on this account. When I queried the above statement, he asked me to send a copy of the statement to the PPI Customer Services dept, which I did, and a few days later I have received a form to complete.

My questions are:
On the form it asks for dates which I cannot remember - will this cause me a problem if I literally state, Cannot Recall.

I have about 30 statements with the above statement printed on - should I send copies of them all? (Later TSB statements do not have that info printed on).

Does it make any difference what you took the CC out for as again I cant remember.

In fact I cant remember a lot - just feel foolish to think that all this time I may have been paying out for PPI without even realising I might have it.

Thank you for any help - I appreciate anyone's time for answering.

:)

This doesn't necessarily mean you were actually paying ppi, in much the same way as you probably didn't have late payment, overlimit or returned payment charges?

If you paid any ppi, it will be itemised separately on the monthly statement(s).

Do any of the ~30 statements you have, show ppi payments? If not, you didn't pay any.

Only if they also show a PPI payment on a separate line. No payments mean no refund. The comment you quote does not mean they will refund something you never paid.

In addition to all this, the Bank have already told you that you didn't pay.
  • Thank you for taking the time to reply :)

PPI payments are not listed or itemised on any of my statements, I am just confused why some have that statement printed on and some dont. Seems odd for the bank to print this info on my statements randomly even though I probably didnt pay it.

I didnt think I had paid any on this account, I know I did on a Debenhams Store Card as that was listed separately, which I am waiting for forms to fill in from Santander.

    Thank you for your help.

I realise this - which is why I was 'confused' when they asked me to send a copy of the statement and subsequently returning a form to me to complete, rather than just a letter stating - This information is standard Account Information and is printed on all Statements etc.

Their covering letter to me states:

My understanding of your complaint is you're concerned about the way you were sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) on your Lloyds Bank Card.

I know a lot of communication they must send out would be 'standard' and pre formatted, but if there was nothing further to pursue on this account you would think they wouldn't go to the bother of sending a form etc? Or is this normal?

..and thank you again, for taking the time to reply. :)

The "Account Information" you quoted is explaining how you (or they) calculate the minimum payment.

ie. 2% of (the balance + any other charges) and does actually say-
the PPI premium on your statement

Perhaps it would have been clearer had they added "if any" to the end of the above

Do the statements you have show any ppi payments?

No. Nothing showing at all on the statements I have, but I only have them going back as far as 2010, prior to this they have been shredded or burnt - this is going to be a fruitless exercise I know :o

I agree - "if any" would make all the difference!
  • you would think they wouldn't go to the bother of sending a form etc? Or is this normal?
Yes it's normal if you make a complaint, they have to send the form which would go to the ppi complaints team, who would then investigate your allegations . . . and wonder why?

You'd probably be added to the list of approximately 50% of complainants who didn't actually have ppi.
  • Oh - ok, thank you for your help and advice anyway :)
