no, i meant from the sense that they could demand you be in work. But it is still you who decides to physically cancel a booked holiday. You could always refuse and see what happens (if they refuse to re-imburse or its something like your wedding) or resign.
I'd resign if an employer told me to cancel a holiday and refused to cover pre-existing costs. Its a very bad way to treat staff.0 -
I found a few website that may help:
http://archive.unitetheunion.org/member_services/legal_help/the_rights_stuff/holiday_and_leave_rights.aspx
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/nireland/work_ni/work_time_off_work_e/holidays_and_holiday_pay.htm#h_your_employer_refuses_to_let_you_take_holiday
Personally, I would get my employer to specifically state in writing that they are trying to cancel the holiday. I would send an email stating the fact that the holiday is already booked and paid for after they agreed to the time off. I would then ask them to reply stating that knowing these facts that they still wish to cancel. Print out and send a copy of these emails to your private email address. You can use this for evidence should you need it later.
As others had say i would also still take the holiday and inform my employye that this is what I would be doing.0 -

I would not advise taking a/l after authorisation has been rescinded otherwise you may find yourself on a very extended "holiday".Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

I would already be looking for another job anyway.0
