Reclaiming bank charges, next step?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and wondered if anyone can help?

All the info I've googled about reclaiming bank charges is really old. I wrote to the bank to try and reclaim charges amounting to just over £4000. I got a call within a couple of days to say they have investigated it and I'm entitled to £300 as I was mis sold an account upgrade a couple of times etc (I'm sure he was trying to baffle me with !!!!!!!!!) I asked for this to be put in writing before I accepted anything.

So whilst I'm waiting for that, has anyone gone to the next step.. A more demanding letter? Court? Ombudsman?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It would be as it died a death after the banks won the court case. Banks only consider CURRENT financial hardship cases for goodwill refunds and incorrect application of charges.

The banks won the court case. So, what would be your argument in court?
The FOS no longer consider complaints about unfair bank charges.

Your outcome seems to be related to packaged account charges. That seems a result.

You've been offered £300, what did the bank say this was for exactly ?

For miss sold account upgrades back in 2009 and some returned dd fees? I'm not entirely sure until I get the break down in writing

A more demanding letter isn't the best way to go. Appeal to the bank again, give them all the details about your financial hardship. You aren't entitled to demand anything, if you ask again nicely you might get a better result.

Then if you aren't happy you can go to the Ombudsman. Prepare for a long wait and a rejection, then you won't be disappointed. Your bank might also withdraw it's original offer too. It's your choice.

    Definitely counter productive.

If the OP wishes to pursue this further, he should write a letter detailing all of his financial hardship. No point relating that his Council Tax hasn't been paid if he still has Sky and a mobile 'phone contract for instance. Make no mistake, these are the things the Bank will have looked for when deciding the level of financial hardship and whether to award a refund of charges as a result.

The OP needs to be aware that the Bank are under no obligation to refund anything. The Bank's only obligation is to treat financial hardship cases sympathetically.
