Reclaiming Bank charges

Hi, I'm new to this forum and wondered if anyone can help?

All the info I've googled about reclaiming bank charges is really old. I wrote to the bank to try and reclaim charges amounting to just over £4000. I got a call within a couple of days to say they have investigated it and I'm entitled to £300 as I was mis sold an account upgrade a couple of times etc (I'm sure he was trying to baffle me with !!!!!!!!!) I asked for this to be put in writing before I accepted anything.

So whilst I'm waiting for that, has anyone gone to the next step.. A more demanding letter? Court? Ombudsman?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Banks won the court case regarding "unfair charges" way back in 2009.

If you are currently in financial hardship and the charges are recent then write to your bank again. If they're historic charges then i'd accept the £300.

You are looking and posting on the wrong thread for the question you are asking. Go over to the Reclaim PPI And Other Insurance thread and you will see many recent examples of the situation you are describing. Not that the answers given by people who seem to know what they are talking about are likely to cheer you up.

Cheer me up? What's that supposed to mean? It's nothing to do with ppi or insurance though.

They are consistent charges every month dating back to 2009.

In 2009 there was a court case against the banks where they were accused of applying "unfair charges" to accounts. They won that case, the courts decided in favour of the banks. Thats why the info you're looking at is old.

If you can prove you are currently in financial hardship (this means not being able to pay for essentials ie mortgage/rent/utilities/food etc) you may get back some recent charges but the banks aren't obliged to refund anything. If you have anything such as Sky/mobile contracts/gym memberships/eating out etc on your account, your claim for financial hardship will fail.

As you have already been offered £300, unless you have compelling evidence re hardship, i'd take it and run.
