Small family car for 3-4k?

Honda jazz, it has a very large boot for the size of the vehicle and storage underneath the back seats.

Skoda roomster, a bit like a van with windows but very spacious inside. This and the jazz have very good rear visibility.

Ford focus, fantastic cars with good boot space, a wider car so you can actually use the middle seat while having toe car seats in the back, avoid the diesel option though.

I don't even know whether it's better to buy new on finance or used outright, it's to be a long term investment. Don't really want the hassle of changing cars again for as long as possible

If so as suggested above jump up to a focus or possibly a mondeo.
