Trading Standards are not interested as it is a civil matter. Same with Environmental Health. I have a meeting with CAB on Monday face to face although I have been in contact with them by phone. I will have to take him to the small claims court. I will send a Letter before Action on Tuesday and then start court proceeedings. Not sure if the local paper would like to get involved with this matter...small town. Thanks for your help.0

I had a similar experience with my bathroom.
I allowed the tradesman several attempts to rectify the errors, then asked for a refund for the shoddy workmanship. The trader refused to reimburse me.
I sourced a reliable trader off the Trading Standards own list of Approved Traders, got an independent report then obtained 3 quotes from 3 more tradesmen from the list and chose the cheapest.
Then I wrote a Letter Before Action explaining everything that had happened, even though we both knew all this. I explained that I had sourced the cheapest quote and gave him 14 days before I would file a court case.
The trader paid up at the last minute.
All along I was advised by Consumer Direct; they did refer the case to my local Trading Standards Office, who were enormously helpful. The Expert Report was a key factor in the case as it evidenced all my complaints. A judge would look for this evidence.
The whole process was time consuming and stressful, but I was cheered by the fact that the trader and his associates became well known to TS, and also to the other traders who saw their work first hand.0
