To claim or not

MY wife has recently damaged our main car at home doing £2500 in damage. It was done scraping a wall on private property so nobody else involved.
I am trying to find out if I have to tell my insurer if I pay for the work out of our savings, also if I need to tell the insurers of 2 other cars I have in my name.
I am concerned it is going up increase premiums on all 3 vehicles.
My NCD is protected on the damaged car but there is £450 excess.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Cheers
Paul

For that amount I'd let the insurance sort it, that's what they're there for.
  • If you let the insurance sort it, I'd very much doubt that you would collectively see an overall increase in insurance premiums over the next 3-5 years of £2000.

if it was £500 of damage I would probably keep schtum and sort it out of my own pocket and not inform my insurer, but £2500 is a big loss to absorb yourself and odds are you'd be worse off in the long run self-funding the job yourself
