Just bought a 'box buddy handle cutter' on eBay for £9.99 + £2.50 postage.
All those boxes will now have handles for carrying!
I never knew I could get so enthusiastic about a gadget...

A tape dispenser is invaluable. Several different colours of parcel tape to aid box identification. Marker pens by the boxload... you'll soon have packed one third, and stood on another third. Allowing for the half the removal guys will purloin, and the one you'll stamp into the cream drawing room carpet, you'll need a dozen more than that.
Post-it notes to stick on doors to state which room is which, so boxes can move from the right room, to the right room.
Door wedges. Lots for both houses. Stops those doors being bashed open/closed/open/closed by a booted foot.
Roll of binbags. Useful for last-minute junk, a rushed tidy-up, nappies and rainhats for boxes going on damp grass in the rain - oh, and you can always sleep in one, under a box in the park if it all goes wrong.
Mobile phone and a charger. And a second charger. I actually have a PAYG phone & disposable SIM for every house move. I can safely give the number to every agent, owner, removal company and builder I want, safe in the knowledge I can bin the SIM after completion if I want.
I'd buy you these scissors, boredmummy21, and let you loose on a box and some tape. Safer than a frustrated partner on moving day... much, much safer, in my experience!0 -
Agree on tape dispenser. Kids, cat, all quiet and safe...
Popcorn, home popped as packing for delicate items. Kids do the work and the birds benefit from unpacking.0 -

Use a packing service .... my sibling does that. I always attend when there's a move on.... we wait for the packing service to arrive. They start work .... after about 2 hours or so they're in the swing of it and know what's what, so it's time to pop out for a wander round the local shops/bakery to pick up a hot snack to eat, before ambling back to the house.

TV packing boxes from https://www.packingboxes.co.uk. Spend over £30 and postage free. They also do wardrobe boxes and the blanket stuff.
A4 sticky clear wallets on eBay, write on sheet of paper as you fill box, attach but DON'T seal until box is full. Keeps inventory safe and easy to add to. It's also waterproof for rainy day moves, no blurry labels.0
