Barclaycard forcing me to upgrade to Platinum

I've just received a letter from Barclaycard telling me they are upgrading me to a Platinum card which will have a new account number. I DO NOT want a new card foisted on me, giving me the hassle of having to notify those organisations I do business with on my existing card, and my Card Security company which keeps a note of my card numbers in case of loss/theft.
Has this happened to anybody else? Barclaycard's Indian Call Centre couldn't tell me whether I could keep my existing card & advised me to write to Head Office. I could barely understand their spoken English and they weren't at all well informed about the transfer.
I'm annoyed that this is just being imposed on me without consultation. And what are the benefits of a Platium card anyway? They weren't properly explained in the letter and I pay my card off in full every month anyway.

  • I was upgraded and my 2 accounts (old and new) run side by side. I only get one statement for the new account. You dont need to change any account numbers with any companies. If the old card is charged it appears on your new account.

Close your account if you do not like how they operate, they cannot impose it on you.

Do you dislike all foreign call centres or just Indian ones? I believe that there are a few that use ones of differing nationalities still.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

I have also just been moved to a Platinum card - I have no idea why either! Call centre tells me it replaces my existing card? So anybody have any idea why they are changing us over to the Platinum one? No complaints about my old one and I've had it for a long time!

Platinum is just a fancy name they think appeals to consumers - no real meaning.
