My chairs were re-sold!

Actually they were my daughters! Bought 4 beautiful oak dining chairs, paid for in full, with £5.00 extra for delivery.
The day arrived, no chairs. After contact, we were informed they were sold again, even though they had a SOLD sign on them.
I asked the shop to get them back, they said how?
The man came in with £100 cash, and a large car (I don't think so!?).
They refunded the money and said it was an accident.
I reminded them that:
It was breach of contract.
They had responsibility for holding the items.
Their staff (voulnteers or otherwise) were bound by "duty of care".
They shrugged their shoulders.
Unfortunately, it cost them £5000.00, which was put into that charity, in my will. Yes I know that others shouldn't suffer. Not on my concience ... they screwed up, and I might change my mind when I cool down, but I can' see that happening anytime soon.

I assume this was a charity shop, and that this is a vent rather than a consumer rights question.0

What is so unbelievable about someone collecting 4 chairs in a car? They made a mistake, hopefully they have apologised. Your reaction is over the top, and comes across as throwing your dummy out the pram.0
-
over exaggeration somewhat to a mistake.
not just throwing the dummy out, the toys, covers, clothes and everything else in the pram0 -
If they even have a pram. It might have been sold to someone else by mistake. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I'm sure that the volunteers were very responsive to your lecture regarding their duty of care. They have a legal obligation to refund your money and they've done that. IMO it's not an entirely unreasonable mistake they've made, especially taking into account that running a charity shop with volunteers does have a very different dynamic to a retail shop with full-time paid staff.
In general a lot of those volunteers will likely be really passionate about the cause and are doing their best to help it. Perhaps the man who purchased the chairs will leave them £5,000 in his will, so they've made a decision which doesn't cost them anything.0
