help i dont know what to do

I sent a request to Barclays on the 31st March 07 requesting 6 years of bank charges and as of yet I haven't received them. It is really frustrating.
I sent a letter to the Data Protection Department with a cheque for £10 as advised. On the 12th April I received a letter back from them with the cheque saying that they would not charge me and I would have my statements within the statutory 40 day period.
I phoned them again on the 30th May and was told that there was a backlog and could I phone back the 2nd week of June. On doing so I was then told that they were not dealing with it anymore and I would have to phone somebody else.
I finally got through to somebody in Customer Relations on the 11th June and they said my request had not been processed or dealt with at all (even though I had a letter from them) so she would need to start the whole process all again. I have then made another phonecall today and been told they will start processing a complaint for me and I will receive a letter in a week. This has been going on for almost 4 months now and I still don't know when I'm going to get my statements. I am getting married in 5 weeks and I've just passed my driving test so the extra money would have been really handy. Can anybody give me some advice on what to do now please?

In fact probably what Barclays will do (as reported recently) is send you an offer based on what they know of your account. You don't have to accept this as you don't know how much your charges will amount to but on the other hand if its a reasonable offer and you want the money quickly its a fairly painless way to do it.

If you don't want to accept their offer you need to go back to them and say you would accept it in part payment and without prejudice but will continue with your claim once you receive the information/statements that you asked for on 31 March.

Thirdly, as you have been waiting for so long you can put a complaint in through the Financial Omubdsman, please read Martin's article regarding the FO.

Fourthly, go down to your local branch and demand copies of your statements now!

Thank you I will wait till next week and see what occurs then. If I still dont hear anything I will see about lodging a complaint. Thanks again
