War Veteren amputee

My husband had to have his leg amputated March 2013 due to 19 years having to undergo 16 different types of surgery. Since this time he has come up against every obstacle possible. He has had to go back out to work due to benefits being stopped etc. Was wondering what the likelihood of getting a grant for a wet room and adapted kitchen would be. He is no longer under the OT as they where not much help. All they kept saying was that once he has his prosthesis he should be able to do this and that. Unfortunately until this time comes, he struggles everyday with daily living. A normal evening consists of him coming home at 6.00pm, having tea and then going to bed because he needs to take his pre-leg off. Unfortunately once he has taken it off he cannot get about downstairs very easily.
I have spoken to our council who have told me he needs to be re-assessed by OT. Just feel like we are going around in circles and getting nowhere fast. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks xx

I got in touch with Social Services after losing my leg. They came and visited me at home and saw the struggle I had getting upstairs to the bathroom and I was awarded a grant for a stairlift and wetroom from the city council. I would search your local councils website for a number for social services and ask to speak to someone who deals with people with disabilities.0

As your husband is a veteran, one of the following ex service organisations should be able to help him/you carve your way through any red tape and assist financially if necessary to get a wet room (and also make sure he is in receipt of the relevant benefits/allowances)
Try either of:
Ssafa: 0845 241 7141
The Royal British Legion (RBL) : 0808 802 8080
Veterans Welfare Service: see the following VeteransUK webpage for which number to ring:
http://www.veterans-uk.info/welfare/contact_new.html
Personally with all housing/social services type matters I find either Ssafa or the Veterans Welfare Service may get slightly quicker results but if a grant etc is needed then the RBL are generally better placed. However in saying that all the ex service organisations do talk to each other (both nationally and locally) so in reality take your pick.

alternatively you can ask your gp to write a referral letter to the ot for them to come out and access needs.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Maybe the limbless veterans charity https://www.blesma.org can offer some advice, too.
Has he also been in touch with the SPVA to make sure he has the right disability elements included with any pension he receives. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -
Thanks for all your replies. I shall be making all the relevant phone calls xx0
