Thanks. Amex never followed up with me even though they said they would investigate and send a letter, but never did, so I never found out anything.

Did you follow up with them? There's a real risk that someone is going to try and intercept your post, so may have intercepted any letters sent that were AMEX branded.

I mean, if you've received two cards then they're not doing a great job... But you would imagine they think they're in with a chance at least.

With 2 unsolicited cards, you're definitely suffering identiity fraud.

Please check your credit files with the main agencies ASAP. If 2 cards have got through to you, how many more were intercepted and are now on your file, being spent on, without you being aware?

CIFAS is a must, as others have said.

Did you end up checking your credit files - what did they say? Did any other searches/credit products turn up on there?

    Did you register with CIFAS?

My Experian report is fine, although the recent fraudulent Santander search is on there. I'm ordering the statutory report from Equifax. And I'll get the other one too, although I forget what the agency is called...

The Santander application fraud number was impossible to get through to today, but I'll try again tomorrow. Kind of annoying that I have to pay to call them and stay on hold for ages with no success (and the line is only open 9-6 so I have to do it whilst I'm at work). I will also follow up again with Amex.

I will definitely register with CIFAS, but it's £20 a year to register myself, so I want to speak to Santander first in case there is a way for them to register me, and avoid the fee. Is this likely?

Not sure, sounds possible. Wonder if you have any recourse against amex too, at first thought I'd say they've been a little negligent in not acting more thoroughly to follow up on your initial report. They should be experts in this, not you

yeah amex c/s is normaly spot on
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

seems strange. if someone has tried to obtain a card, fraudulently, in your name...then they haven't done a very good job.

please let us know what you find out.

Depends - if the real target was a balance transfer initiated online into a mule account which could then be syphoned off, the card is useless.

Update: Spoke to both Santander and Amex, Santander are removing the search from my credit record and adding me to CIFAS. Amex confirmed the case had been investigated and closed at the time, and a letter was sent out to me in a blank envelope, so not sure why I never received that. They had also removed the details from my credit record, and apparently added my details to CIFAS too.

Next step is to contact the building manager to see what they can do to prevent this happening again and to other people.

Do you have an external mail box? That's usually where people run into issues with frauds like this. Might be worth getting a letterbox in your door.
