A final post on this thread. My mother died in hospital yesterday evening. Sadly I wasn't able to get there in time to be with her.
My lovely Mum - who isn't with us any more - used to say that it's what you did for people while they were alive that really matters - and you did all that you could.0 -
Please don't be too distressed about not being with her. I sat beside my mum's hospital bed talking to her and stroking her hand for an hour. When I left I don't think I'd got as far as the car park exit when she died..................

Thank you very much to everyone who has posted useful or comforting words here. You have helped me greatly over the last weeks and I have appreciated your support so much.
I'm so sorry to read this, but you can draw comfort from the fact that you did everything you could to secure your Mum's wellbeing, and nobody can do more than that.
I missed my Mum's passing too, having been at her bedside for 13 hours, but the fact that you weren't there, doesn't diminish the love you gave her.
It may well be that in years to come, someone you know will need advice for a similar problem, and you'll be able to pass your info on.
Take time to grieve, and take time to come to terms with your new life. You've done all you could, and I wish you well for a happy future.
