sports insurance

Has anyone heard of or used totallysportsinsurance.com. I'm Looking for income protection, but have some previous injuries I need to cover. This company are offering £1200 per month for 24 months, plus a lumpsum at £25pm.
This sounds good as most wont cover previous injuries despite the consultant signing fit to return to rugby.
Any experience of the company would be useful, thanks.

That seems to cheap to be true for a proper policy.

Unfortunately their website does not look you view the cover.

I suspect the benefit is subject to you being admitted to hospital for at least one night.

You need to read the cover very carefully, if you can copy and paste it we can give an opinion

Dale, thanks for the reply. I was surprized the policy wasn't available to download. So ive requested a copy. Will let you know the outcome.
    Cheers Sean
Ps... The policy is for my son who plays local rugby. He broke both wrists in the past so its really difficult to get cover. And my sons company doesnt pay sick pay for sports injuries and now he has a mortgage, cover us essential.

On the basis of payment it sounds as if it is an ASU (aka PPI) product rather than full version of income protection (PHI)

The company you are buying from are fairly small broker based on their regulatory information and so there will be an insurer/underwriter behind the policy. It may be special terms they've negotiated or a standard product that you can buy elsewhere and they've just badged it up for sports people.

Obv need to confirm the cover for pre-existing conditions as traditionally ASU doesnt cover them

Thanks for the info. Just spoke to them and their underwriters are friends provident. It does sound like a PPI policy as they mentioned it covers other illnesses. They have emailed a quote with a schedule, but couldnt send a policy as that comes from the underwriters. As you say sounds like they are just the brookers and we will need to read their t&cs carefully before continuing. As you get 14 days to cancel and there is no contract term I cant see any harm in buying, reviewing, then deciding whether to continue.
    Thanks Sean

Remember there can still be cancellation fees in the cooling off period - though I believe they are uncommon in this market.

Personally would be very weary of any insurer or broker who "cannot" provide the policywording prior to purchase. Even when I've been involved in multi-million pound bespoke corporate insurance policies we still write the wording prior to binding the deal

Ask them how they can recommend a policy to you if they don't even know the terms.

I have simular concerns, but dont have other options. So we may have to take a calculated risk.

    Its a 2 year policy.
Its likely to be underwritten at claim stage rather than the outset.

Most full life insurance policies will cover things you have recovered from - it depends on the circumstances though.

They have now sent me a basic quote and a copy of 'key facts' sheet. Friends life ref FLIP/5332/Jan14. I can't attach or link, but it look the standard type.
I'll see what is on FL site. Anyone know the rules around max protection payable by law for income protection. I heard it is 65% of monthly gross salary or £2k, whichever is the smaller. How is this enforced, and would extra one off lump sum benefits effect this?
