Council Tax Court Summons

Hi all,
So, back in April my car was clamped and towed for failure to pay car tax. I'd completely forgotten it was expiring and had been expired since January.
So, this being totally my fault, I got my new tax disk and went to the pound - paid clamping/towing fee, storage fee and crucially, a fine from the DVLA.
I've now received a court summons through the post stating that i'm required to appear in court to answer to the charge that;
'you kept a motor vehicle for which a licence was not in force, contrary to section 29(1) of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994.'
Now, all this is completely my fault, but surely i've already paid the fine? If it's my error and I do have to go to court then so be it, but I don't want to waste my time taking a day off work and going in if this appears to be some sort of error. How can I be fined twice?!
If anyone's got any experience of this, you're amazing - thank you in advance.

The penalty (not fine) you got from the DVLA is supposed to end the matter so raise that in court. You could try ringing the prosecuting authority (DVLA, police or the council I'm not sure from your post who is taking you to court) and find out why they are taking you to court. It could be they sent you a notice and you ignored it then the DVLA came to tow the car and they gave you a penalty but the first time the car was seen on the road is another matter.:footie:

And what has Council Tax (thread title) got to do with any of this?0

Thanks for the advice and the link. Sorry, put council tax rather than car tax in the subject field and can't figure out how to change it!0

I don't think you can change the heading; I've seen complaints about this on these boards in the past.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
