PPI & Car Insurance Premiums

I was tidying up my files and discovered that on my car insurance the monthly premium included PPI. I was never asked about PPI nor did anyone ever tell me that this was included.

The insurance company was Endsleigh and they were using Premium Credit Ltd as their finance company.

Has anyone had any luck claiming back PPI in these circumstances?
I'd be very interested to know as I have paid a lot of money to this insurance company over the years.

Comments

  • I have read my paperwork and when I selected the option to pay my premium monthly Endsleigh used Premium Credit to "loan" me the full amount of the insurance premium. Premium Credit have then added PPI on to this "loan" with no input whatsoever from my husband and I. I would say that this was missold, don't you?

If you can show that you didn't agree to this then you may have a valid mis-selling complaint.
However, it's a claims company myth that insurance was randomly added without the knowledge and permission of the customer.

Unfortunately it's far more likely you've signed for this insurance and have simply forgotten.

We cant tell if it was mis-sold as it would depend on the disclosure that was given before you accepted it.

If it was pre-selected then you have a case. if you ticked the box yourself then you dont.

PPI on car insurance is rare. Just want to check you are not mistaking the credit interest charged by Premium Credit as PPI.

  • Hi thanks for the info. Yes, it was a pre-ticked box on the agreement and has no signature from our side - not surprising as we were only dealing with Endsleigh

"Pre-ticked" boxes only apply to online applications, not paper ones.
If there is no signature on this "agreement", are you sure you have a final copy of the document?

Is this document from your own archive?
If so, the company will have a copy too- likely with your signature (which is not required in any case)

That does not mean it was pre-ticked. The paper output will reflect the options typed in on the system. So, if the online application was not pre-ticked but it was then ticked to have it, then the paper output will be ticked. A paper form cannot be pre-ticked by its very nature.

    A signature is not required.
