Was just looking at the listing of the most ethical cat foods available, and noticed Ami and Benovo sitting comfortably at the top: http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/buyersguides/food/catfood.aspx
However, they're both vegetarian/vegan.

Have to say that I personally have zero interest in these products, but I'm just curious from those do feed their cats these vegan products, how are you finding it?
It's an interesting idea, and to be honest looking at the nutritional information it seems much better than the conventional supermarket brands anyway (and reviews seem very positive), but I'd be curious from a vet or a nutritionist's point of view also.

I'll admit to start that I don't have a cat or do I know much about them but
I have done a lot of research into dog nutrition to try & solve one of my dogs dodgy stomach & during this reading references to Veggie/Vegan diets cropped up (both dogs & cats).
As cats are obligate carnivores I doubt that feeding them a food they are totally unequipped to deal with is a good idea in the long term.
As one nutritionist wrote... "It's like trying to feed meat to a Horse"
I also have problems with people owning animals & then feeding them a diet based on their own morals/ethics, we can make a choice on what we eat. Our pets can't!
My thoughts are that if you're a vegan & want to feed your pet a vegan diet... get a Rabbit!Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
How can a food that contains no meat be of any use to an animal which only eats meat????
Stupid crazy idea and no benefit to cats at all, only stupid owners!
The best food for cats is raw meat ( provided it is prepared carefully and the ratios of muscle/organs are correct)
Dry food can be another example, it's a type of food designed for the convienience of humans not the health and well being of animals.
If you own an animal at least feed it the best food you can for them.:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0 -
Don't know why they are so high, they are mainly corn which is one of the worst instigators of allergies!0

When I first got a cat I was all gung-ho about feeding my cat a veggie diet because I'm veggie.
But ten minutes on Google soon made me rethink. Cats are obligate carnivores. They need meat to survive. So feeding a cat a meat free diet wouldn't in itself be unethical.
I absolutely understand wanting to be ethical etc but if someone insisted on wanting to feed their cat/dog a veggie/vegan diet my advice would be not to get a cat or dog.Sigless0
