Could really do we some advice. We moved into the rented property 9th June. We left Scottish power on the 26th June and we owe them £351.56. They had an estimated reading of 17638.70 and the end reading was 19925. With eon we have used 758 kWh since 4 th July till Monday this week. We believe we don't owe so much. It's a three bedroom house. Can anyone advise what we can do. We did take a meter reading the 9th June but have lost the piece of paper. The previous owner who is the land lord took a reading off 17628.70

It certainly looks odd in the recorded rate of usage when you were with Scottish Power seems about 5 times higher than since you switched to Eon.

It sounds like you are saying the very first reading was estimated. Does that mean neither you nor your landlord (the previous occupier) sent a reading when you first moved in?

If so then the problem is probably that the opening reading (of 17638.7) was too low. However if you did not submit the reading you took when you moved in, and have now lost that reading, I am not sure what you can do now.

When did the landlord take the reading of 17628.7? Was this long before you moved in?

It may be worth chatting to your landlord, especially if they did not take a recent reading. If they agree that the opening reading was too low then you may be able to come to some arrangement with your landlord over the first bill. However you will need to be tactful otherwise the landlord may think you are accusing him/her of dishonesty which is unlikely to lead to a good relationship.
