Insurance after leasing

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone can offer any advice. I have been driving for just over 7 years and up until 3 years ago had my own car, insurance etc. Then three years ago I took on a lease car from work and insurance etc was included in the lease.

The lease expires on 06.09.14 and I'm toying with the idea of buying the car as opposed to having to search for another car to buy where I don't know the history etc. Either way I will need to insure the car.

Does anyone know where I stand re my no claims discount? Prior to having the lease I had held insurance continuously for nearly 5 years and had not made any claims. I have an awful feeling that that actually counts for nothing now due to me having had the lease car for three years and so will effectively have to insure any car I buy with 0 years no claims?

All advice is much appreciated!

Thank you.

So this was a company car?

Some insurers will accept a letter from your employers as evidence of your claim free time and give you some form of discount. This may be true NCD or a proxy for it with slightly different rules.

If it was under 3 years then the Coop do accept this but their price with discount may be higher than others without NCD or company car discount.
