    I got a yaris and can recommend it. Not sure how insurance compares.

    Personally, I'd avoid finance at a young age because you never know what might happen.
    I'm only a couple of years older than you OP and I have always bought cheap used cars. If it gets dented or scratched, who cares?
    If I crash it and its written off, again, the only thing that would affect me would be the insurance hike, but on finance you still need to pay that if you've totaled the car.
