Opening tesco accounts

Hi guys,

This is my first post here so be gentle.

Has anyone had any issue opening up a Tesco Internet Savings account. I have a good credit history although it might have gone down slightly as I have opened a few current accounts recently.

I went through the process of applying online everything seems to go smoothly and then it mentioned about waiting for something to come through the post.

Is this normal for tesco; I didn't get any email confirmation or anything else. Plus I've had issues in the past trying to open a credit card with them, where I went through the process they ask for proof of Id which I supplied through there prepaid envelope Id was returned shortly after and told I would hear soon then absolutely nothing.

I'm rambling on a bit, my question is, is this normal for Tesco to wait and not to open up a savings account immediately

When I applied for Internet saver account I was applying from scratch (i.e. internet access as well). At the end of the on line application, i had an application i.d. (reference), also account number, sort code, login details had been set up, and first payment had been made into account. They then sent by post a form (mandate I think) to sign and return.

Second account was an instant access saver. Applied when logged in and account opened instantly and received similar form in the post a few days later. Also a cash card received.

Maybe worth calling them to see what the state of play is with your application.

The only issue that I have had with Tesco’s is when using Safari browser. Not just banking but also groceries and Tesco direct. Trawling the internet and talking to help desk indicates that there are issues in this area.
  • I might have mislead you a little, although I had applied previously for a credit card I don't have one with them as nothing happened after they sent back my Id so I gave up on them.

So essentially this was from scratch as well; none of those had been setup for me, and I didn't write it down as I made a bad assumption that I would receive a confirmation email with the reference.

Thanks for your answer I'll try ringing them today, I just don't know why I have problems opening account with them.

    I'd give them a ring on 0845 678 5678 or 0141 278 7386. I've always found them very helpful.

Just to clarify. I never received any email correspondence or confirmation on either application. All progress and confirmation was on screen.
  • Thanks for your replies everyone.

I've just spoken to an advisor, and they have sent a letter out and want me to send some documents to them proving who I am.

Hopefully this time I will hear back from them after my documents have been returned to me.
