Dead Rat Smell!

I had no idea where to put this, so mods please move as you see fit. My local council recently sent someone round to get rid of 2/3 rats. They laid down poison but the rats died within the wall cavity. It really stunk at first. They assured me it would go after a couple of weeks. But its now been about 3 months and the smell still lingers.
They could have used traps but I wasn't given this option. And I'm now really annoyed about this.
Is there any kind of compensation I can get? Or is that not worth pursuing?

Why didn't you deal with the rats yourself like the rest of us have to? Why do you think you are due compo?0

Firstly, you need to make it clear what kind of compensation you are looking for.
Would you like the council to come and remove the rats? Do you feel you should be entitled to financial compensation? If so, do you have an amount in mind?0 -
Would it not be easier to just phone the council and request they come back and remove the rats as the smell hasn't gone?
Obviously there will be no financial gain for you this way though....0 -
I did request this but they can't get to them. Getting them out would cause some significant damage and expense that they are not willing to pay.
Hintza - This wasn't a free service from the council...0 -

Its not possible for them to be removed. Which is why I wish there was an option of traps, so we knew where the dead ones would be.
I didn't have a figure in mind. I'm not sure how I'd put a price on it but it was almost unbearable at first and I'm still now reluctant to have people round because of it. Plus I have a lodger and its not fair on him. But how and with whom would I pursue compensation?0 -
If you were to receive compensation, would you then be less reluctant to have people round? Its not possible for them to be removed. Which is why I wish there was an option of traps, so we knew where the dead ones would be.

I think you are due £135.76, and 1 million for the distress0

IME it's bloody difficult to persuade rats into a trap! So if they'd used traps you wouldn't have the smell but you might still have a rat infestation. While I do appreciate it must be horrible, you won't have a chance of compensation because they haven't done anything wrong. If it's any consolation (and sorry - this is really grim), after three summer months there really can't be much left of them so I can't imagine the smell will linger much longer.0

It's very unusual for the smell to linger so long. Council pest control tend to use poison rather than traps, so they have done nothing wrong and you are not entitled to compensation. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
