If your meter is of the cubic feet variety I suspect it must be quite old. I suspect that new ones have been counting cubic metres for some time. Wiser heads may be along soon to put me right on this.
If you actually have used 456 cubic feet in 8 months I would hazard a guess that the meter started from zero a year or so before you joined nPower. Either that or it cycled round to zero. Does it have a label showing the installation date?Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Bigphil, I'll take your advice on the timing, and thanks for describing what you do. Re the radiators, I have them all on, but they're on 1 in the central areas of the house, and 'snowflake' in the bedrooms.
F&NC - the meter dates from 1984; has the date bottom right. Do you think this could be causing a problem?

I would maybe reduce the amount of time your heating is coming on, maybe once in the morning and once in the evening.
The fact your thermostat is set at 10c should mean minimal usage. You will pay a standing charge which may contribute to the majority of your balance.
