Today I received a Work focused interview for Income Support claiments appointment letter. But I'm confused as I am a full time carer and was wondering if any other carers out there have had one of these letters.

Any light that you goods folks out there can shed on this matter is gratefully received.

I believe that carers on IS are obliged to attend these meetings but will not be expected to seek work.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong!

Thanks HB58, that's what I thought about not being expected to seek work as I've kinda got my hands full already!

I've been on income support and carer's allowance for the last 3 1/2 years but never been asked to attend an interview before, so this is confusing and worrying.
  • dont worry about it,it will be straight forward to see if any help can be given if at some time you could return to work, once you explain i suspect they will leave you alone for a while

You're right. During my ten years caring for my mum I had to go to these meetings approximately every 3 years. It's just going through the motions and you're not expected to start working - unless you want to. If you wanted to work they try to find ways for this to be possible.
  • Thankyou everyone for your replies.

I'm not worried about going to the interview now :)

  • Hello my partner just had his wfi (p) interview. We basically went in to the jobcentre where a lovely lady just pointed out it wasn't realistic for him to work as he was taking care of me full time. I asked for travel expenses she agreed and we left. In total 5 mins spent there! Nothing to worry about. I'm on esa support group. Hope this helps. :)
