I do my best to avoid "single supplements" but often packages with the likes of Travelsphere,Archers,Cosmos etc., do charge a single supplement unless they offer a "room share".
Well I never book a package holiday and I wouldn't dream of sharing a room with a stranger. Book direct with the hotel and you just pay per room.0 -
I've travelled solo to Greece, Spain,Canada and various places in the US including Chicago, New York and Las Vegas and never had any problems.
If you look like an uncertain tourist you may attract unwelcome attention wherever you are but if you look confident you won't.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
wherever you go, leave route plan with someone, and check in regularly, just to let them know you are safe..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
I'm a single female who has been on several holidays alone. I started with long weekends in Western Europe, then a week in Istanbul (when I booked that several males friends thought I was crazy to go alone, but I experienced no hassle and had a great time) and most recently spent a week in Las Vegas.
I do go on holidays with friends which I love, but also enjoy the freedom that comes with going alone, and that I can fully immerse myself in my destination. If a friend wants to go away with me and to somewhere I also want to go, that's great, but if I want to go somewhere and nobody is available or nobody wants to go there, then I will go alone rather than miss out.0 -
I am also new to solo travelling and in my 50's. Just booked a hostel in Pembrokeshire for 6 nights and can't wait! Thought to try closer to home first and then will try Europe before venturing further away but will definitely want to give hostels a go as much more affordable.

Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I'm a woman in her late 20s and have been travelling solo for a few years. I find it much more relaxing than having to worry about someone else. I echo the comments others have made; you can never be completely free from hassle as a woman - I get harassed in the street weekly in the town I live in in south-east England! But it doesn't mean you'll feel unsafe. I've been to the US, Spain, Hungary and Greece alone so far and it was all fine. I always learn "go away" and "help" in the local language just in case, but have never had to use them. I'm not sure it's worth wearing a "wedding ring" - generally men who hassle women don't care whether or not you're married. I don't tend to let on that I'm alone when I talk to people - I say my friends are doing something different that day, or my boyfriend is feeling ill so is resting in the hotel room, etc. - and I don't tell people where I'm staying. But other than that I don't really take any further precautions than I would if I was out and about in the UK.
Please give it a go OP - it's a brilliant experience and very liberating!0
