In your shoes, I'd get a copy of this book. It's an absolute classic if you want to learn about finance and investing. It was the set text in my Financial Economics course in the final year of my degree yet it is very accessable if you don't have much of an economics background.

My friend owns a flat which he can't sell. He has an ordinary fixed mortgage ( until Decemeber) . Could he rent out his flat and buy a house on another mortgage? I guess the advantage of buy to let is that although the returns are not great, you take a gamble on house prices rising-not good at the moment.

ask your dad if he thinks you should "invest" the 60K on a spread bet cause thats what you basicly are doing except you would likely have better odds of success at william hill at the moment vs capital gains in property.

somebody a lot smarter than me said that when everyone is buying into a scam its time to get out.
