Legal action against a firm you don't know the name of ?

  • How annoying - have you tried calling into the bank and speaking to someone there about it personally to find out who they contracted the work to. It is likely that they have paid the other person for the work that they did and that that money has not been passed onto you. Tough lesson to have to learn when you are starting out. PS Have you kept the phone number of the person who called you asking you to do the work and have you tried to ring them. Trouble is as you don't have their details to send your invoice to, then they cannot pay you I suppose. And I doubt that they are going to be chasing you to allow them to pay you and so it will just go on and on.

    Result.

Thank you all sooooooo much. I honestly can't afford to lose over £200.

I sent the link of this to the lady at the bank and I have an email (5 mins ago) saying they will pay the invoice and claim it back from the contractor.

They said it was a clerical error and as a "mark of appreciation for a job well done" they will make the payment.

Thank you all for your help.

PS. I have learnt my lesson

As I said it was my fault. I thought I was working for the bank but apparently I was really working for a contractor the branch manager had called in to spruce up the branch.
I have never done a job like the before so I have learned a good lesson. Normally I do wedding spreads, table centers and I have done two fashion shoots (not me getting pictured but the models wearing my arrangements).
The lady at the head office has always been really nice but she said it wasn’t possible to do anything as I was not working for the bank. When I sent her link to this websites I had an email from customer service within a few minutes. Saying they would pay me directly. My contact at the bank has said they will deduct this amount from the contractor’s invoice.
    All’s well that ends well.

Thank you all again for your help

Sounds like the bank thought you might name them here and they'd get some bad publicity, although in this case they'd done nothing wrong (perhaps dealing with a slightly dodgy contractor was a mistake for them as well as you). Anyway, glad to hear it's worked out for you.
