Tree removal cost

Hi all,
I need to have 7 overgrown large (circa 80ft) poplars and 2 thuja (circa 40ft) trees removed from the back garden.
We aren't going to keep any of the wood and I have already enquired about the possibility of having them removed for free for the sake of wood. Nobody around our area seems to be interested, so we will need to pay for this and I was wondering if anyone would be able to give an idea of cost for this work. So far I've had quotes going up to almost 6K, which seems extremely excessive to me.
Grateful if someone could share their experience please.
I am in Buckinghamshire.
Thanks

We had one ash tree, a bit taller than our house, plus 2 large leylandi halved in height. All disposed of. That was £600. That took 3 guys about 7-8 hours to do.
Cutting down large trees is not easy. It does require a high level of skill. It does take time.
Ultimately, if you want the trees gone, and you have had several quotes around the same price, that is what it is going to cost. If you are still unsure, just get a couple more quotes. Quotes are really the only way to find out.
And personally, under no circumstances would I let any amateur who offered to cut em down for the wood have a go. They will end up crushing half your garden and possibly themselves.0 -
As above poster has said, if all the quotes you have are around that price, then that is what it will cost you. Are you having the stumps removed too? It may work out cheaper if you can leave the stumps in place and just get the trees cut down and taken away.
The type of wood you say they are will be of no real use to the professional wood collectors for burning on their stoves, it will be too damp and tarry. The price may be higher too, as they may have to be working in confined spaces and have to take into account all property in the area. It is not just cut it and shout out ' Timber'.
Make sure they have good insurance and don't try to scrimp on some cheap offer, it will most likely be travellers in the area, who will pull a fast one on you, been there got the T shirt. They seem to have moved off Tarmacing and move into trees now.0 -
We moved last year into this house, and at the back were about 20 leylandii which were about 20' tall. We had them all removed for £1,600. It took 3 days, and included the extra amount for hiring a stump remover and grinding down the stumps. I always thought the Isle of Man had rip-off prices, but it seems quite good value after all!0

I was reading a story last week in our local freebie paper that i guy in StHelens decided to get a chain saw and cut a tree down himself. He lived alone so there was nobody there to help and it wasn't for a week or so when someone noticed he was missing, the Police called around and found him laying on the patio trapped under the tree, he was dead. It's thought he cut part of it then sat down for a rest when the tree fell. It never killed him but just pinned him to the ground, it may have been days later he died.

You see it sometimes on Freecycle where people are trying to get rid of old trees. Anyone with a woodburner may be glad of it, but it would probably need leaving to dry out. If it were November the kids may take it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
