Finishing Tiling Edges - Triple Joint

Hi

(I have searched the forums but the MSE Search feature remains severely limited returning hundreds of posts).

Question first.... Does anyone finish tiling using the tiling strips along the top of the exposed tile as well as around external/internal corner joints?

I'm tiling the kitchen and want to finish it 'nicely' and was thinking of putting the finishing/edging strip along the top of the tile but, then I will get to the window where I will have 3 strips of edging coming together, and trying to get a neat joint out of the 3 bits of plastic (wall, window return, and vertical edge) will be a nightmare.

Has anyone done anything like this?

Or, because it's a bit of a nightmare everyone leaves the top tile edge exposed?

Was thinking about using the standard rounded section for the vertical then use the flat edging for the top of the wall and window return tiles. I could probably gently 'sand' and round the (flat horizontal) corner.

Thoughts...?

I purchased the edging strips ready to do my tiling in the kitchen, I tried it but I found just doing the edge with grout did a much better job

imagine the corner of a cube or dice where the three vertices's come together in a point.

Yeah, perhaps I'm just over complicating it.

  • I have a corner like this in my bathroom. There is a jointing piece that goes around the corner on the top of the tiles something like this. The vertical trim is just butted up against the bottom of it.

Is it white/cream plastic trim? In which case you can buy pieces like the other poster has said but 3 way pieces for just the scenario you're talking about. Only plastic though. We've got issue with chrome look trim as they don't do corner pieces for that! So stupid and short sighted of the manufacturers. They stop glazing the edge of tiles but then fail to provide an adequate solution for covering the edges.

As for leaving it uncovered, that looks terrible. The amount of tv shows (homes under the hammer especially) where you see the raw edge of unglazed tiles where they've been too cheap or lazy to put the trim makes me so angry.

You need to cut a three way mitre. Here's how.

Are u tiling a wall just to a mid height which then joins the window? Or are you tiling splashback area but not as high as the wall units? Is the actual window ledge tiled?

Not adding edgeing looks terrible and eventually gets dirty and annoying to clean.

My trim is plastic chrome effect, rather than white. I just posted the first link I could find! I've never seen those pieces in the non-plastic type mind you.

    Mine looks like this:

I've seen plastic chrome effect corner pieces but never metal which makes no sense to me. The tile edging is made of metal, then they make 2 and 3 way corner pieces in chrome effect plastic!?
