The thread title says it all. Had national grid lay a supply and meter box. They advised me that many energy suppliers would offer a free meter, but i am struggling to find information on this.
Also would prefer Dual fuel (if it is cheaper) and not be locked into a tariff with exit fees.
All advice welcome.

Googling came up with this on the EDF website. It may or may not help.
How much does it cost for a new gas meter?

The installation of a standard domestic gas meter on an existing live gas supply is free of charge.
If you need a new gas pipe connected to your property for a new supply then you should contact your local gas networks who should provide you with a free no obligation quotation. Should you accept this and have the new service fitted, we would then arrange an appointment to fit the new gas meter.
After we have fitted your meter you will need to arrange for a Gas Safe (formerly CORGI) registered engineer to connect your appliances. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks for that.
Would my best bet be to find the cheapest supplier and then contact them for a meter?0 -

As above, but EDF don't have cancellation fees so sign up with them, give it a few months and if you don't like them swap suppliers before winter when the increased consumption will impact your bills more0

Free meters are also available on ebay...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
