Buying a Numberplate of of eBay

I'm getting my girlfriend a present for her 21st birthday and I've just seen this (Ebay item - 271556515619) numberplate on eBay (which is perfect as they are a perfect match for my GF's initials) and wonder if there is anything I should worry about when buying a numberplate.
Her car is newer than the number plate so I think this should be ok.

Anything else I should look out for?

Cheers in advance.

Just keep an eye on timescales for eBay dispute resolution. Similar to buying domains etc some people sell things that they dont own and use delaying tactics so that the true problem only comes to light when its too late to use dispute resolution.

Where it says "all fees are paid", does that relate only to retention fees or are they stumping up the £80 transfer fee too?

Do number plates come under tangible items? If you don't really own anything that you can physically hold, Ebay have been known to wash their hands of support issues. Digitally emailed items, xbox codes for example, fall into this category. Or they certainly used to.

Seems good feedback is 100% he has 4 offers so people are interested in it not really sure about the £80 dvla transfer fee drop him an email or better still try to get his contact number and call him that way you ask things like reason for sale, how long he has had it for, are the number plates brand new or are they off his car if so some cars have different rear number plates for eg: jaguar’s type have bigger plates

a lot of cash so just be a bit careful that’s all

    hope this helps

Kerrrrist. Just change her name to match the number plate she's got.

That's what I did with my wife, Xantha Yolande.

She soon got used to it :)

A numberplate.. The perfect gift that just keeps costing.

Transfer fee, Admin fee on the insurance. Then if you change cars all that again.

Seven hundred seems alot but it worth what people will pay. Have you tried the dvla page where they will suggest similar plates? Also the cashing in on Rio bit is a little optimistic.

Ratrace is a little off the mark with his/her post - you do not actually get physical plates.

What you are buying from the seller is the right to display the number on plates that you will have to get made up yourself.

Assuming her name is Not Rio but her initials are DJR - you'll find hundreds of plates with the letters DJR at prices ranging from £15,000 down to £135

    http://primoregistrations.co.uk/search/djr

But in there as the 4th most expensive is R10 DJR - at £2074.99 - figure that out?????

You pays yer money and takes your choice but if all you want is a plate with the letters DJR - there are much cheaper ones around that the one you linked to oneBay.
